Caterina Conte, MD, PhD, is Professor of Internal Medicine at San Raffaele Roma University in Rome and the Head of the Obesity and Obesity-related Cardiometabolic Complications Research Unit at IRCCS MultiMedica in Milan, Italy.
She earned her medical degree from Sapienza Università di Roma and completed her residency in Internal Medicine, achieving board certification in 2012. Her training includes a research fellowship at the Center for Human Nutrition, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. She earned her PhD in Experimental Endocrine and Endocrine-Surgical Sciences from the Catholic University of Rome in 2016.
Currently, her work focuses on integrating clinical and research perspectives to address challenges in the management of obesity and its cardiometabolic complications, including type 2 diabetes and sarcopenic obesity.
She strongly advocates for recognising obesity as a disease, emphasising the need for comprehensive strategies in its prevention and treatment.
Duality of interest: Professor Conte has received consultancy fees from Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk and has participated in company-sponsored speaker bureaus of the latter.
