Assessment Setter
Pam Brown is a general practitioner (GP) with an interest in diabetes, obesity and lifestyle medicine, and a tutor for the MSc in Diabetes Care at the University of Warwick. She trained in medicine at the University of Edinburgh and also has an MSc in Nutritional Medicine, a Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine and a Diploma from the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine/British Society of Lifestyle Medicine. She teaches these 3 specialities to medical students and Primary Care teams, facilitating programmes to explore their use in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS). She is currently jointly running a Tier 2 weight management programme.
She has previously developed and taught diabetes, obesity and rheumatology programmes for UK and international healthcare professionals at Bath University, University of Glamorgan and the University of Leicester/BMJ Group and for the Primary Care Diabetes Society (PCDS), Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and other organisations.
Dr Brown is a former joint Medical Editor of MIMS magazine weekly and Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes and Primary Care, and currently Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes Distilled. She has jointly authored a book (Fast Facts:Type 2 Diabetes) and multiple textbook chapters, guides and clinical papers aimed at both patients and clinicians.
She served as the team doctor for the Welsh Elite Triathlon team (2002-2010), for the Wales team at two Commonwealth Games and for the European Ryder Cup teams in 2010.
In 2022, Dr Brown won the Primary Care Diabetes Society Lifetime Achievement Award.
Duality of interest: Dr Brown has received speaker’s honoraria and advisory panel fees from Abbott and also undertaken consultancy work for Abbott. She has also received payments for tutoring and other educational activities from iHeed/Warwick University, Novo Nordisk, and the RCGP.
