My name is Elisabeth Mathiesen. I’m an endocrinologist and have been working in a centre for pregnant women with diabetes in Copenhagen for more than 25 years. The learning objective of this module is the prevalence of diabetes in pregnancy, and the risks for the mother and foetus.

This module will introduce you to pre-existing diabetes in pregnancy, known as pregestational diabetes.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

Explain the epidemiology, pathophysiology and clinical consequences of pregestational diabetes (diabetes diagnosed prior to pregnancy)

Compare factors influencing adverse outcomes in pregnancy associated with type 1 and type 2 diabetes

Plan your approach to a consultation with typical patients with pre-existing diabetes who are preparing for pregnancy

This module includes self-marked assessments, such as knowledge checks and/or case studies, as well as a marked final assessment, which you can attempt up to five times. To complete the module, you must review all chapters, pass the final assessment (80% pass mark), and fill in our feedback form.
