My name’s Frank Snoek. I’m Professor of Medical Psychology here in Amsterdam at the Amsterdam University Medical Centre. The topic that I would like to discuss for this EASD e-learning is fear of hypoglycaemia. What I would like to do is talk about what is it actually and who are the people at risk. And to talk about how do you assess it, how often is it actually presenting in your clinic and what are the consequences. And, of course, to look at means of prevention and treatment. And I will end with some recommendations that I hope will be useful in your clinical practice.

Though not much talked about, fear of hypoglycaemia can have devastating implications for patient wellbeing and health. This module examines the challenges it presents for people with diabetes and the options available to healthcare professionals to identify, prevent and treat it.
