Hello ladies and gentlemen. My name is Richard Holt. I’m a professor in diabetes and endocrinology at the University of Southampton. And it was my pleasure to be the EASD co-chair for the recent ADA/EASD Consensus Report on the management of type 1 diabetes in adults, which was presented at the EASD meeting in 2021. The report was clearly not just my work and today’s presentation is on behalf of the entire writing group. The idea of the module is to give you an overview of the consensus report, to help you manage people with type 1 diabetes better. And to help support them through their journey with type 1 diabetes. When the report was presented in 2021, there was a co-publication in Diabetes Care and Diabetologia at the same time. And during today’s presentation, it is impossible for me to go through all of the report, so I would strongly encourage you to read the paper in full and really gain those very useful clinical nuggets that are included within the report.

Initiated to bring guidance up to speed with rapid advances in the diagnosis and treatment of type 1 diabetes, the ADA/EASD writing group completed its consensus report in 2021. Covering a vast range of topics, the report puts psychosocial support for people with type 1 diabetes centre stage, along with personalised care, individualised targets and diabetes self-management and education.
