In this module, we’ll be talking about the benefits of insulin pump therapy, some of the evidence around insulin pump therapy and I’ll be going through the different types of insulin pumps available. I’ll end up by then going through some simple tips on how you can start insulin pump therapy and use it and optimise it to help your patients with type 1 diabetes.

This module introduces insulin pump therapy, and demonstrates the evidence and benefits for different types of insulin pumps. During the module, you will have the opportunity to complete some case studies to demonstrate and apply your thinking.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

Explain the evidence underpinning the use of insulin pump therapy in type 1 diabetes

Identify the key requirements for the initiation of insulin pump therapy in practice

Plan the use of insulin pump therapy with typical patients with type 1 diabetes seeking advice on beginning pump therapy or patients on pump therapy attending for routine follow-up visits
