So, I’m Professor Rayaz Malik, Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar and also Honorary Chair at the University of Manchester. I’m going to speak on diabetic foot and essentially go through, as part of the EASD course, the epidemiology, the pathophysiology, real world cases in terms of how you manage the different aspects of diabetic foot disease and finish off with a module on Charcot foot.

The 5-year mortality of a person who’s had an amputation is 70%; around half of non-traumatic lower extremity amputations in the USA are due to diabetic foot disease. This module explores the disease pathways underlying what is sometimes called the ‘Cinderella complication’, and outlines some of the more innovative techniques helping us to achieve better understanding and management of the foot in diabetes.
