Module 1 provides an introduction to insulin resistance, including the concept of the metabolic syndrome, the mechanisms and pathogenesis of insulin resistance and an overview of interventions to reverse it.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
✓ Explain the concept of insulin resistance and how insulin resistance leads to type 2 diabetes
✓ Define the metabolic syndrome and the link between metabolic syndrome, diabetes and cardiovascular disease
✓ Evaluate the effectiveness of physical exercise and weight reduction to counter insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome
