Between 70 and 80% of people with type 2 diabetes also have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Having diabetes also increases the risk of NAFLD’s progression to other, more severe forms of liver disease. This module provides an introduction to NAFLD, covering its epidemiology, pathophysiology and the underlying mechanisms of its relationship with diabetes, and sets out the diagnostic tools used to identify the condition.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
✓ Explain the epidemiological significance of NAFLD for people with type 2 diabetes
✓ Outline the underlying mechanism of the relationship between type 2 diabetes and NAFLD
✓ Make use of the currently available diagnostic tools to identify NAFLD in patients with type 2 diabetes
This module includes self-marked assessments, such as knowledge checks and/or case studies, as well as a marked final assessment, which you can attempt up to five times. To complete the module, you must review all chapters, pass the final assessment (80% pass mark), and fill in our feedback form.
