My name is Per-Henrik Groop. I am Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Helsinki in Finland and also Chief Physician at the Department of Nephrology at the Helsinki University Hospital and it’s my great pleasure, in this module, to talk to you about diabetes and diabetic kidney disease.

This module introduces you to the prevalence and diagnosis of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), the various consequences of the disease and options for how to treat it.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

Summarise the prevalence, diagnosis and consequences of DKD and the link between cardiovascular disease and DKD

Analyse the evidence from clinical trials underpinning the recommendations for optimal glycaemic and blood pressure control targets and treatment options for people at risk of developing or with DKD

Develop treatment plans for people with DKD in line with the 5-finger rule

This module includes self-marked assessments, such as knowledge checks and/or case studies, as well as a marked final assessment, which you can attempt up to five times. To complete the module, you must review all chapters, pass the final assessment (80% pass mark), and fill in our feedback form.
