Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a medical emergency that is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. As a consequence, DKA should be diagnosed promptly and managed intensively. Unfortunately, however, errors in its management are common.

This module is designed to help you understand the management, care and therapeutic interventions recommended for adult patients presenting with DKA both in Europe and the USA. You will also learn to assess the severity of DKA and the pathway of care recommended in the latest UK guidelines to support the safe and effective treatment of DKA.

Hello, everyone. My name’s Ketan Dhatariya and I’m a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in Norwich UK, and also an Honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of East Anglia. This is another module in our series on diabetic ketoacidosis, also known as DKA. In this module we’re going to focus on the management of DKA in adults.
