I am Dimitri Pournaras. I am a bariatric and metabolic surgeon here at North Bristol. Welcome to this EASD e-learning module on metabolic surgery for obesity and type 2 diabetes.

This module gives a surgeon’s perspective on the subject, outlining the various operations available in metabolic surgery and how these can be used to help control type 2 diabetes or achieve remission of the condition.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

Outline surgical options available to support the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity

Explain the potential for remission of type 2 diabetes and improvement in glycaemic control in type 2 diabetes as a result of metabolic surgery

Plan how you would advise people with type 2 diabetes living with obesity who seek advice about surgical treatments to support weight loss

This module includes self-marked assessments, such as knowledge checks and/or case studies, as well as a marked final assessment, which you can attempt up to five times. To complete the module, you must review all chapters, pass the final assessment (80% pass mark), and fill in our feedback form.
